Comments
Enju School was virtually founded by Kunimura, who is said to be a child of a
son-inIaw ofRai Kuniyuki ofthe Province ofYamashiro after moving to Kikuchi ofthe
Province of Higo. It flourished at the end of Kamakura towards the Nanbokucho era
and continued until the Shinto period. The style of Enju School is generally Rai
inspired, but compared to Rai, it has rather weak blade, circled boshi with a slight
horizontal turnback and doublelined hamon. Kunitoki was a very skilled
swordsmith, who is said to be a son of Kunimura. This sword is Osuriage and it
showed one of Kunitoki’s typical styles. This sword is certified as the carved
inscriptions indicate.
